Legal News of the Day: House Says Yes to VAWA

On Thursday, the House of Representatives votes to accept the Senate’s version of the Violence Against Women’s Act, in a 286-138 vote.  Last month, the Senate bill passed 78-22.

senateA Republic version of the legislation, written as an amendment to the Senate’s bipartisan bill, failed; Democrats were united in their opposition of the House version of the bill, stating that it removed protections to LGBT and Native American women.  President Obama has already pledge to sign the bill into law as soon as it reaches his desk.
